Peonies are hardy and they like sunshine and dry climate. Peonies grow well in the places where has enough sunshine all year round and a good drainage system. As for climate, peonies need cold winter to flower. The temperature should be <10℃ in winter. As for soil, Peonies, like roses, are heavy feeders and enjoy a heavy fertile soil. They do well in heavy soils. However, the trick is to ensure that drainage is impeccable. the pH is 7.0~7.5. Too much water and heavy soil alkalinity is not suitable for peony growth. At our farm most of the peonies are grown in full sun with no shade whatsoever.
